As many as received him

"as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name."BB1
As many as apply the principles he taught. Simple. Not profession, not worshipping personality, not talking, not reading. Amazing how few actually "receive him" - actually do it - build on the Rock.

Not being a good person. Probably the biggest impediment to spiritual growth - wanting to be seen as a good person - God is not really real to this thought.

Re: As many as received him

A "good" person can easily become a devil, it can be just superficial varnish, as seen in Germany in the 1930´s, when a highly civilised , christian nation all of a sudden turned vicious.

This is a radical idea--we are taught to be "good"--but if we are not taught about God and to keep ourselves out of the way--this becomes an incredibly selfish position, this "being good" stuff.

Thanks for continuing to point this out. I love the sentence, "God is not really real to this thought." Sounds like self-delusion then, this wanting to be seen as a good person!

Re: As many as received him

I know when I tried to be a humanly good person, I truly had no idea who God was - for this humanly good stuff only claims a selfhood apart from God. When someone tried to call Jesus good what was his answer - "Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God."
Now that's the right answer!!
