the receptive thought

It is the receptive thought, the poor in Spirit, that is ready for the Truth; because it "is convinced of the fruitlessness of their toil in the dark" (reliance on material things).

This gives me something very important to always remember in my watch... The one Mind manifested in all is receptive to the Truth.

Re: the receptive thought

Christ's commandment, "That ye love one another" and the Psalmist's speaking of "The sacrifices of God ... a broken and a contrite heart" reach the heart in this wonderful lesson. The material world we seem to inhabit is a constant challenge.

Re: the receptive thought

I think I have stumbled upon a fresh way to see this so-called material outside world or body.
Assume that you died last night, and you left the material world behind.
So, now, you are not material flesh any longer, because you died, and left the fleshly body in the grave, covered with flowers and tears.

But, lo and behold, you still have the same experiences, you still feel and perceive with your senses. But you know this is not a material world, you are in a spiritual dimension now. So, now, if your body reports pain, (or worse, pleasure) you understand clearly that this pain is not caused by a material body, because there is none. Now you see clearly that this sensation is just in your thinking only, it must be a mental cause creating a mental effect. There is no matter anywhere, but it still seems it exists. But it doesn´t. Never will.

Re: the receptive thought

The material world we seem to inhabit is a constant challenge.

Why indulge or affirm this? "In Him we live and move and have our being." Why say this on the one hand, but admit we live in a material world. The very moment we admit there is a material world, we deny God!!
This is Science, not old theology! No wonder it is a constant challenge when we indulge duality. Similarly, when we identify with the Adam man (original sin) on the one hand, and try to claim we are the image and likeness of God - that too is a real challenge!!!

Don't assume you will switch from a material world to a spiritual dimension at the point of "death". This is not Science. Mrs. Eddy states clearly that death is not the doorway to immortality, etc. Whatever you do not overcome here in the way of sin and materiality, you will have to later.
As one of you wailed (in mockery): First Christian Science takes away my smoking and drinking, and then it even takes away my hope for heaven "in the next life!"
"Now is the accepted time" to work out our salvation, to sees spiritual universe all about us - and from the Scientific Statement of Being "Therefore man is [I am] not material. He is [I am] spiritual."
If this is not true right now, why should it ever be???

Re: the receptive thought

This weeks watching point #105 by Carpenter nails this point "....Man is already saved with an everlasting salvation; but he must be saved from believing otherwise, and from the effects of this false belief. He needs to be saved from the belief that there is anything from which he needs to be saved, since in reality God is All! "

Re: the receptive thought

I did not say that we need to die to enter into reality. I said that it is AS IF we had already left this material illusion behind us, it is just a gimmick to remind myself constantly that yes, I am not a material creature in a material universe, this is it boy!

This is as real as it will get. We are spiritual now! Material sensation is impossible. Because our consciousness always and automatically reverts to the sense dimension and old theology, matter now, heaven later.
We have to make an effort to remain above and free from this duality.
At least I do.

Re: the receptive thought

The material world that we "seem" to inhabit but do not, since the spiritual is all. There is no duality, but it takes constant striving to hold to this at this point.
