Jesus not person but Principle in operation

"Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?"RR
I find it most helpful to see that Jesus did not consider himself as person, but as Principle - (In the 1st Edition of S&H) - His sayings, as well as this one quoted from John, do not make sense with Jesus as a person.

A correlative: "To gain the harmony of being, and be perfect even as the Father, God must be understood, which means, the Principle of man must be understood; believing in God never made a Christian." (1st Ed - emphasis added)

Thank you for this clarification.

So UNDERSTANDING is the key here, not simply belief. (Which is a relief because seeing Jesus as a person would put a lot of pressure on one "person"…)

But seeing Jesus as the Wayshower--demonstrating Principle so that we may follow in his footsteps--opens the way. It allows us to work with confidence because our work is based upon Principle. Jesus expected results from his followers!

"And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding…" (I John 5)
