temples made with hands

This hit me today that this doesn't necessarily mean a physical church strructure as I have been believing.
.
One Webster's 1828 dictionary definition of temple:

4. Any place in which the divine presence specially resides.

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the spirit of God dwelleth in you? 1 Cor. iii. 16.

Just because I am in a building, reading the lesson, and so forth surely does not mean I am worshiping spiritually.

The human mind with its contrived human worship, false trusts, idols, earthly ambitions, intellect, will, etc would attempt to make a temple and worship "with men's hands". Where is God in all this? Where does church or church activity really begin but in thought. Boston has deluded itself and deceived others into thinking it is worshiping spiritually because they have no traditional rituals, candles, incense, robes, etc. while all the while they have contrived new ways to worship materially and desecrate temple.

Thank God for Plainfiled for waking me up to see the life of "whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness" I had been living and setting me on a new path.

Re: temples made with hands

In 1st Edition of S&H:
"Anciently, in Japan, they conveyed a praying-machine through the streets, stopping at the doors to earn a penny grinding out a prayer. But in the belief of higher civilization, we pay for prayers in lofty edifices."
OUCH!!
