Testimonies of Healing

The following testimonies are offered with great love to those seeking encouragement and inspiration.

I fell and injured my hip so that I was unable to get around without a walker. Getting out of bed was extremely painful. I tried to work this out with my own prayers, but after several days, I was no better and very discouraged.
I called a Christian Science practitioner in Plainfield for help, and was met with loving assurance that there was a blessing to be had from this experience, because God is a loving God. Immediately the discouragement disappeared, and I eagerly worked with each statement of truth the practitioner gave to me. He asked if I listened to the online services on the Internet, and I stated that I wanted to, but my computer needed some help. The practitioner firmly told me that God was providing this valuable blessing, and that I should not let anything deprive me of it. So I stopped procrastinating, got someone in to fix the computer setup, and started “soaking in” the wonderful services from Plainfield. I also submitted an application for membership!
Within two weeks, much to the amazement of my husband, who is not a Christian Scientist (yet!) and who had been very worried about me and wanted me to go to a medical doctor, I was completely free of the agony, and able to go out with friends without even a cane.
I am so grateful for the work of the practitioner, and for the Christian Science that is coming out of Plainfield. It is real, and it heals!

A statement from Science and Health, which was quoted in a recent Wednesday testimony meeting, reminded me of a lovely healing experience I had some years ago.
In preparing for the birth of my second child, I worked throughout the pregnancy with a Christian Science practitioner to see the unfolding of God’s idea. I found a doctor who was willing to go along with my wishes to have a natural childbirth (no medication or procedures). At one of the regular monthly checkups, the doctor found something wrong. The practitioner gave me a statement from Science and Health to work with: “We must realize the ability of mental might to offset human misconceptions and to replace them with the life which is spiritual, not material.” At the very next appointment, the doctor found that all was well, and was very happy.
At the end of the term, at the monthly checkup, even though I was not in labor, the doctor said to meet him at the hospital at midnight, for the next day was his day off and he would be there with me for as long as it took. After checking in at 12:05 a.m., our daughter was born at 1:08 a.m., with just enough time to get to the delivery room. It was such a wonderful experience, completely harmonious, that the nurse in the delivery room told many in the hospital about it.
I am so grateful that we have this Science to work with, to know that God is always in control, and that this Truth is available to all.

I thank God that Christian Science heals.
I awoke recently feeling sick to my stomach and nauseous. And although I felt like curling up in a ball and staying in bed, Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health that when the symptoms of disease first appear, to rise in rebellion against them. So, I got up and read our Lesson Sermon. Immediately, I could feel God’s healing presence. One thought that was comforting to me was that there is no law of God that says we ever have been sick. I asked God to give me the strength to do whatever He wanted me to do, and I trusted Him.
It was a full day. I even did some hard physical work. But when I was finished, I felt stronger and healthier than before I started. God healed me of all the symptoms I had earlier that day.
I thank God for Christian Science as taught and lived in the Plainfield Church. It has proved to me that God heals. And I am grateful that this healing Truth is available to everyone.

I wish to express my gratitude for the help of a Plainfield practitioner and a healing of grief when my dad passed away. I was given Hymn No. 148 to work with from the Christian Science Hymnal. The first verse reads:
                                                    In heavenly Love abiding,
                                                       No change my heart shall fear;
                                                    And safe is such confiding,
                                                       For nothing changes here.
The storm may roar without me,
                                                       My heart may low be laid;
But God is round about me,
                                                       And can I be dismayed?
This was so comforting! The practitioner also told me to reach out with love in my thought to my dad and to surround him in God’s love. From that first call, my grief was healed. I was able to do the necessary things I needed to do. I was also able to reach out with love as I was speaking with various relatives and family friends. There were several times personal sense tried to get in the way. I called for help, and as I let go of this false sense of me doing this or that, and trusted God, things fell back into place again.
I am very grateful for this proof of God’s healing and loving care for all of His children. I am also very grateful to be a member of the Plainfield Church.

The Plainfield Lessons are wonderful and healing. This is “the real deal.” If I had not discovered Plainfield on the Internet, I would probably not even be here today. I get up each morning and pursue a much more normal sense of activity, even driving my car short distances, when four years ago I did not think I would ever be able to get out of bed again.
I do not know what I would have done without the support of Plainfield practitioners when my husband became ill. I am grateful that he was receptive to reading the Lessons, and he also appreciated that I had been helped.
Thank you, Mrs. Evans and Plainfield, for giving me back Christian Science. Words cannot thank you all enough.

“Bow down to nothing but the one God who made us all.” (Doris Evans) Years ago I enjoyed the hypnotic smoking habit and did not really wish to give it up. My attitude was, however, instantly changed by a conversation with our five-year-old grandson. His Sunday School teacher, while discussing the first few commandments, held up a red sign with a hand that said, “Stop!” Reading these commandments again, I realized with a start that I had been making a graven image of the tobacco habit and was bowing down and serving it. I decided that I would not do this any longer! My freedom was immediate. The false appetite was conquered, and a few later temptations were easily handled by knowing that God gave me dominion and control. “We’re born to liberty and not to bondage.” (Mrs. Evans) And Benjamin Ndukwe says, “It is not the mistake you’ve made that matters. It is using it as an opportunity to grow spiritually.” I certainly felt, as Mrs. Eddy says, gladness to leave this false landmark and joy to see it disappear.
I am very grateful for Plainfield Church and the inspired work going on there, which inspires and blesses us all.

While walking down a flight of stairs, I twisted my leg, causing injury to my hip. The pain was intense, and I found it nearly impossible to stand or walk.
I called for help from the Teacher in Plainfield Church. The Teacher realized that I had been concerned about several things, and she told me, “God is your support. He does not merely provide your support, He is your support.” And she said she would pray for me.
I realized I hadn’t been trusting God completely, and had permitted myself to become overwhelmed by several responsibilities and financial obligations. In thinking about what our Teacher has taught about there being no “gray” zones — was I really trusting God or not, either yes or no. I realized I needed to do a better job of letting go, and relying completely on God for everything, without reservation. The lame man at the pool of Bethesda didn’t doubt, and gingerly or timidly stand up. He leaped up, praising God. So, instead of walking slowly, limping, and holding onto furniture, as I had been doing, I needed to lean only on God and exercise my God-given dominion. By the end of the following day, I was completely healed.
I am so grateful for this wonderful healing. I thank God for Christian Science, and for the help I received from the Teacher, which helped me to get to the bottom of the real problem, where it could be seen and healed.

I woke up recently with a lump in my throat, which made it painful to move my neck. I prayed for myself, and called a practitioner from the Plainfield Church for help. He said he would be happy to pray for me. And then he told me some things that I really needed to hear. I was told that there is no place in the universe where God is not present; that God is perfect; therefore, His image and likeness is perfect (and that means me!). He also said that we don’t have to “fix” matter, but, rather, we need to spiritualize our thought, and know that matter can make no conditions for me, or for anyone.
I worked with these thoughts, and strove to listen more closely to God. And it was beautiful. With that help, the lump and the pain left quickly that day, and never returned.
I’m grateful for this healing, and for the help of the practitioner. I am so grateful for Christian Science, and for the fact that it is lived and practiced in the Plainfield Church.

This church and our Teacher have helped me find true meaning to my life. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy states, “Christian Science meets a yearning of the human race for spirituality.” And this is what I have found here. First, we are taught how to pray, how to pray for ourselves and, also, how to pray for all mankind. We do not just work selfishly for our own comfort, but we work for the church, the community, and the world. There are so many ways to be of practical service to God, to make life rich with meaning. We can contribute to our periodicals, give testimonies, make a bowl of soup for someone in need; and all of these things help satisfy that yearning to become more spiritual.
In Miscellany Mrs. Eddy says, “May each member of this church rise above the oft-repeated inquiry, What am I? to the scientific response: I am able to impart truth, health, and happiness, and this is my rock of salvation and my reason for existing. . . . As long as we have the right ideal, life is worth living and God takes care of our life.”
I am grateful this church has that right ideal. I am grateful for the inspired teaching we receive here, and for all that I am learning.

I will always be grateful for the birth of our first child. I called a practitioner for help, and was met with much love and assurance that God was with me and would take care of every detail.
The practitioner gave me many wonderful statements from the Bible that were of great help. “I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.” (Isa.) And also, “He shall gently lead those that are with young.” And from Science and Health, I was given Mrs. Eddy’s definition of “children”: “The spiritual thoughts and representatives of Life, Truth, and Love.” I kept a notebook of these statements and worked with them every day. The practitioner always reminded me to keep myself in God’s love. It was a very holy time, and I felt very close to God and to His love.
The delivery was very quick and harmonious, and we were very grateful that God blessed us with a dear little boy. I am grateful for the practitioner who helped make this whole experience such a joy, and I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who has taught us we are all the children of God and can expect only good from our dear, loving Father.

I live in Southern California, in what is called the high desert. I was very grateful to be able to call a practitioner from Plainfield for help on the recent wildfires in this area. I was given several things to work with. I was reminded that material existence is not what it appears to be, to put a blessing on the whole thing, and that “In atmosphere of Love divine, we live, and move, and breathe.” (Hymn No. 144.) These thoughts helped me to lose the fear and anxiety, and to remember to radiate love to my fellow beings.
Another thought to work with was also given to me from Science and Health: “There is no vapid fury of mortal mind — expressed in earthquake, wind, wave, lightning, fire, bestial ferocity — and this so-called mind is self-destroyed.”
The wind and weather changes were peaceful and harmonious. We even had a bit of light rain late in the afternoon to clear the air of all the smoke, as well as cooling things down. Rain is very unusual here in October. It was amazing to watch all these miracles!
I am very grateful to be a member of the Plainfield Church, where one can get real Christian Science help and see it work.
