Translation

what a divine lesson topic this week about how to understand God's creation. After a year in this church I can say the veil is lifting, because I am not confused about the "material universe". peter mentioned in a post this idea of two universes or one etc. It was hard for me to explain to myself and others the CS concept of perfect God and perfect man when so much appears wrong. It lead me to think God's universe is perfect and this material one isn't. The CS culture had me twisted up.

Now when I read:

SH 2. The compounded minerals or aggregated substances.......are of no real importance, when we remember that they all must give place to the spiritual fact by the translation of man and the universe back into Spirit. In proportion as this is done, man and the universe will be found harmonious and eternal.

SH 5. Man understands spiritual existence in proportion as his treasures of Truth and Love are enlarged. Mortals must gravitate Godward, their affections and aims grow spiritual, — they must near the broader interpretations of being, and gain some proper sense of the infinite, — in order that sin and mortality may be put off......This scientific sense of being, forsaking matter for Spirit, by no means suggests man’s absorption into Deity and the loss of his identity.....

I see Mrs. Eddy has stated clearly there is one creation, and we must have a spiritual mode of conciousness so we can see the real and break the mesmerism of "material force" - error

Thank you, Plainfield and the leson committee

Re: Translation

I struggled with this quite a bit as well and I am sure now it was because of the veil cast upon Christian Science and Science and Health. It seemed like there were always two- a mortal and an immortal, a good side of life and a bad side of life - and the "material" was somehow to be destroyed. It all never made much sense. Mrs. Wilcox, who worked in Mrs. Eddy's home and received direct instruction from her, confronts this problem in her article "Scientific Translations." I remember how much this article helped me at the time. Also Peter recently found Watching Point #275 - which also is exremely helpful and clears up a lot of questions. Thank God for these workers (Wilcox and Carpenter) who knew Mrs. Eddy and left us this legacy. With God they prevailed despite the fact their works are considered "unauthorized literature."!

Re: Translation

Thank you. I've been tripped up by the sense of dualism many times.

This lesson is so great. I especially love the responsive readings.

"For in Him we live, and move, and have our being."
