Comprehend and Apprehend

"If we rise no higher than blind faith, the Science of healing is not attained, and Soul-existence, in the place of sense-existence, is not comprehended. We apprehend Life in divine Science only as we live above corporeal sense and correct it."
I was puzzled as to why Mrs. Eddy chose two different words (comprehend and apprehend) in these two sentences. So I looked them up in Webster's 1828 dictionary. Comprehend - to understand; to take hold in mind; to possess an idea. Apprehend - to take hold of; to seize.
Apprehend signifies a very assertive action, a grabbing hold of the truth I learn and then actively demonstrating it in my life. Such a help to me this morning.

I'm continuously in awe over the inspiration in Science & Health.

Re: Comprehend and Apprehend

Thank you Joanne for pointing out that distinction between the words. Really helpful!
